| Michal C. Carlos Museum: Architectural Views |
|
The design for the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University was born of our interest in embracing and enhancing both the character of this historic campus and the Museum's impressive and important collections. One of the most interesting aspects of this project was how to connect the new Museum with the original 1916 Beaux-Arts building, while maintaining the proportions and symmetry of the surrounding historic buildings of the Emory University quadrangle. The character of the interior architecture of the museum was informed by the nature of the collection. The galleries take inspiration from the architecture of the ancient civilizations whose works are displayed there, turning a walk through the Museum into a promenade through the history of civilization.
