Coffin of Tanakhtnettahat

Egyptian, 21st dynasty (1050 BC)
Painted wood 1999.1.17A

Conservation treatment involved structural stabilization and visual compensation. Unstable joints were reinforced and flaking paint was consolidated with adhesives chosen for their compatibility, working properties, and ageing. Areas of distracting paint loss were filled and toned to improve the object’s overall legibility and appearance. Tiny samples of the wood, paint, and varnish were removed for identification.
